Drop In Bathroom Sinks
A drop in bathroom sink, also called a self rimming sink, sits into a
cutout in the countertop and rests on its own rim. It is the most forgiving basin to
install, because the rim covers the cut edge, and it is the reason drop in sinks work on
countertops where an undermount would not. This collection holds MaestroBath's full range of
designer drop in basins.
Shapes
-
Rectangular drop in sinks. The most space efficient shape and the
easiest to align with a rectangular vanity.
-
Round drop in sinks. Softer in a small room, and forgiving of a
countertop that is not perfectly square.
-
Oval drop in sinks. The traditional profile, updated here in gold leaf
and silver leaf finishes.
The VetroFreddo range
Most of this collection comes from VetroFreddo, our cast glass and resin
line, which is where the interesting surfaces live. The Kosta, Elisse FL, RX and Riv basins
are formed rather than thrown, which allows a thinner wall section and a much more sculptural
edge than ceramic can hold. The material is a resin and glass composite: it is warm to the
touch rather than cold like porcelain, it does not craze, and the color runs through it
rather than sitting on top as a glaze.
Finishes
The range is built around four finishes: gold leaf, silver
leaf, black and white. The leaf finishes are
applied by hand, so the metallic surface has variation across it and no two basins are
exactly alike.
Drop in, undermount, or vessel
If you are still deciding, the practical difference is this. A drop in
sink is the simplest to fit and the simplest to replace later, and its rim hides an imperfect
cutout. An undermount gives a cleaner counter edge but requires a solid
surface and a precise cut. A vessel sink sits fully above the counter and
needs a taller faucet. The Pert Open basins in this collection are unusual in that they can
be fitted either as a drop in self rimming sink or as an undermount, which is useful when the
countertop decision has not been made yet.
