Undermount Bathroom Sinks
An undermount bathroom sink is fixed beneath the countertop rather than
resting on top of it, so the counter runs unbroken to the edge of the bowl. There is no rim
to trap anything and nothing to wipe around, which is why undermount basins are the standard
choice in stone and solid surface countertops. This collection holds MaestroBath's luxury
undermount sinks in glass, crystal, stainless steel and polymer.
Shapes
-
Rectangular undermount sinks, including the Four Lux and Rho Lux
basins, which give the largest usable bowl for a given counter width.
-
Square undermount sinks, the sharpest option and the one that suits a
strictly modern room.
-
Round and oval undermount sinks, including the De Medici Ice oval
crystal basin, which softens an otherwise hard countertop.
Materials, and why they matter more here
An undermount sink is bonded to the underside of the counter and carries its own weight
plus the water in it, so material and wall thickness are not cosmetic decisions.
-
Crystal and glass. The De Medici Ice and Mosaic undermount basins.
Visually the most striking, and heavier than they look.
-
Stainless steel. The most durable option and the most forgiving in a
bathroom that gets hard use.
-
Polymer and acrylic. The Pert Open and Flou basins, which are light,
warm to the touch, and available with an overflow.
Finishes
Beyond plain white you will find gold leaf and silver
leaf, brushed gold, brushed rose gold,
brushed silver, gun metal, platinum and
black metal. Metallic undermount basins are unusual and they change a bathroom
significantly, because the finish is framed by the counter rather than sitting on top of
it.
One thing to confirm before ordering
Undermount sinks require a countertop that can be cut and sealed at the edge: stone,
quartz, solid surface or treated concrete. They are not suitable for laminate. Check your
counter material first, and if you are not certain, the Pert Open basins in this collection
can also be installed as a drop in self rimming sink, which keeps your options open.
