Our answer is usually to stay single. A basin set off center on a 48 inch top leaves an uninterrupted run of counter on one side, which is more useful to most people than a second bowl they use twice a week. It also means one faucet, one drain and one set of plumbing.

If the bathroom is genuinely shared every morning, look at the double vanities instead, which start at 60 inches. Below that a double is a compromise pretending to be an upgrade. Every width here is the true measured figure.
