Matte black is the only finish in the range that absorbs light instead of returning it. That is the whole point of it. Against white tile it draws the outline of the fitting like a pencil line, and in a room full of reflective surfaces it is the thing your eye rests on.
The finish is baked onto solid lead free brass rather than sprayed, which is what separates a black faucet that still looks new in five years from one that wears through at the handle. It is also the most forgiving finish we sell day to day, since a non reflective surface shows neither water spots nor fingerprints.
