Gold accessories are the cheapest way to make a bathroom look expensive, which sounds cynical until you consider what they replace. A gold towel bar and roll holder change a white room more than a gold faucet does, because there are more of them and they are at hand height.
Three different golds sit here and they are not interchangeable. Polished gold is reflective and reads as jewelry. Brushed gold has a grain and sits quieter. Gold leaf is applied by hand over crystal, which is a different thing entirely, warmer and slightly irregular, and it belongs with the leafed basins rather than with plated metal.
All of it goes over solid brass. That is what stops the plating lifting at the mounting points, which is where a cheap gold accessory always fails first.
If you are fitting out a whole bathroom, the accessory sets are worth looking at before buying pieces individually.
