Gold in a kitchen is a bigger commitment than gold in a powder room, because the faucet sits in the busiest sightline in the house. Done well it is the one warm metal that makes stainless steel appliances look deliberate rather than default.
Brushed gold is the safer of the two. The grain hides water marks and softens the color, so it reads as brass rather than as jewelry. Polished gold is brighter and throws more light, which suits a kitchen with real daylight and little else competing for attention.
Both are living finishes over solid brass. Keep abrasive cleaners and anything chlorine based away from them, which is what dulls a warm finish first.
