White is the finish that shows the form. On a sculptural basin, and most of ours are, colour competes with shape. White removes the competition and lets the silhouette carry the piece, which is why it remains the most versatile thing on this page.
It is also the only finish that never argues with a counter. Marble, timber, glass and stone all change around a white basin without needing to be matched to it, so it survives a bathroom being redecorated around it.
Matte white and gloss white behave differently. Gloss returns light and reads brighter. Matte absorbs it, conceals water marks better, and feels closer to stone in the hand.
Check the basin height against your counter before ordering, and remember a vessel adds its full depth to the working height.
